Jean Paul Van Bendegem

A clock that never tells the right time, yet still shows time. With this philosophical challenge from Jean Paul Van Bendegem, BASE2545 is working on ‘Onrust’, a Tijdsbeeld about the tension between mechanical and lived time. The name refers to the balance wheel of a timepiece, but also to what time does to us.

Raf Njotea

Nothing moves without setting something else in motion elsewhere. From this idea, Raf Njotea is working with BASE2545 on a sculptural water object as a Tijdsbeeld about interdependence and fragile balance. We are currently looking for the craftsperson who can give tangible form to this interplay of water, form and movement.

Pascale Platel

What if a throne becomes a place you share? Actress, theatre-maker and writer Pascale Platel is working with BASE2545 on a Tijdsbeeld that translates her personal experience of being placed on a pedestal into an invitation to closeness. A sculpture to sit in, move together, talk or remain silent.

Paul Demets

‘Let us sharpen ourselves against one another more slowly.’ From this line of poetry by Paul Demets, BASE2545 is working on a Tijdsbeeld that takes a Belgian whetstone as its starting point. What if we give one another the time to create friction, to refine and to change shape?

Benno Barnard

Faith is disappearing, yet morality reigns all the more. From this provocative thought, poet and writer Benno Barnard is working with BASE2545 on a Tijdsbeeld. How do you give form to a society that leaves God behind, yet cannot stop passing judgement?

Joke Devynck & Thomas Hertog

How do you give form to a universe that keeps expanding? Actress Joke Devynck and cosmologist Thomas Hertog (KU Leuven) will collaborate on a Tijdsbeeld for BASE2545 in 2027. One hundred years after Georges Lemaître’s groundbreaking insight, our sense of wonder takes tangible form.

Maarten Inghels

What does it do to us when danger seems to lurk everywhere? Writer and artist Maarten Inghels is working with BASE2545 on a Tijdsbeeld about a society of fear. About how we protect ourselves, try to ward off risks and give ever more space to warnings.

Christophe Vekeman & Sarah-Ann Cousein

What happens when a writer and a visual artist turn their attention to the same place? Christophe Vekeman and Sarah-Ann Cousein are working on an in situ project for BASE2545. What emerges between word, image and place will be revealed in the course of 2026.

Sofie Muller & Dirk De Wachter

What if support needs no words, only a gesture? Psychiatrist Dirk De Wachter and visual artist Sofie Muller are working with BASE2545 on a Tijdsbeeld about closeness and the power of a presence that imposes nothing, yet remains available.

Frederik Willem Daem

Behind the scenes, writer Frederik Willem Daem is working with BASE2545 on a new Tijdsbeeld. Ideas are being explored, forms tested. More will follow once the work begins to reveal itself.
